Title: Grady's back

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but Kaiju Shakedown is back in another guise (and with a much more complex link): http://www.varietyasiaonline.com/index.php...g/Itemid,10021/

He's been posting for about a week, but I only discovered this today, thanks to Green Cine.

Oh, man, I gotta finish reading this blog--it's hilarious, just like anything Mr. Hendrix usually does---glad to see he hasn't lost his touch or his weird,whacked-out sense of humor that ALWAYS makes for good reading, especially about Asian films! And DOG EAT DOG definitely sounds like the kind of hardcore HK thriller I like to watch (I saw a great review of it on that other excellent HK newsblog last year).
In an unrelated subject, if anybody feels like watching some old-school HK period drama, here's DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER with a young Brigitte Lin at YouTube.
I remember Mr. Camp said this was a favorite of his some time ago, so it might be worth checking out. Here's the link:

Great news - thanks! I've already gobbled up every blog entry and comment!

And ms. kim you shoulda warned us that clip was the final scene of the film - yikes. I was lovin' it until I realized I'd been totally spoiled. Oh well - I'm sure it'll be years before I get around to seeing it anyway and with my poor memory I'll forget the details long before that.

Just for the record, DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER is not the kind of thing you should be watching on YouTube. (No movie is if you can help it.) Get thee to a Celestial Pictures R3 DVD post-haste! And seeing the final scene doesn't spoil anything. The film is all about the women's psychological journey to that point and the battering their psyches take from the familial and societal obligations and gender restrictions placed on their free souls and fragile bodies and the strength they summon to defy them. And it's about watching Brigitte and Sylvia Chang deliver two of the most intense, psychologically layered performances in Hong Kong cinema history.

My bad, Jennifer---I may have been in such a rush to post the link that I forgot to check to make sure that particular link was for the start of the film. I didn't mean to spoil it---sorry! And,yeah, it does seem worth checking out---I'll see if it's available for rent where I get my movies. The few movies I've watched on YouTube have only been those that weren't available to see anywhere else or because I had no way of getting them at the time. It's great for watching obscure videos and left-wing documentaries that critique the establishment---I even saw part of a documentary on Chinese triads once.

Just to make up for spoiling the end, here's link to a great fight in an HK flick I have to track down after seeing this---it's called FATAL CONTACT, and it looks like old-school kung-fu ain't dead--it's alive & well & calling it a comeback!

Well thanks to you (and Brian) I now own it and will get the chance to see something tailor made to my sensibilities!

Another great clip Kim. Don't people know that when you pull an underhanded stunt like sticking nails in your gloves and shoes you only piss off your opponent thereby giving him the added strength needed to beat you?! Yeesh.
