Did you just take the reels off of a GRINDHOUSE print? It doesn't look like it's the extended European cut.

That's exactly what I proposed on the GRINDHOUSE thread--release "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof" separately, but on NEW double bills with original grindhouse movies. (Although I think I paired DEATH PROOF with DEATH RACE 2000 or THE GREAT TEXAS DYNAMITE CHASE.)

VANISHING POINT's clearly the one to see on August's double bill. And I'm happy to see it's playing last, so it should get the bigger crowd. I'm curious how people who've seen neither will react after seeing both.

I think it's illegal to cut prints up like that without the permission of the distributor, isn't it?

First off, thanks for the compliments, but I had nothing to do with the screening--all credit goes to the Castro Theatre. Secondly, the Castro Theatre has an amazing reputation with all of the studios, and working with them the last three-and-a-half years I can vouch that nothing is done that isn't completely legit and within proper rental ettiquette. With that being said, this screening must have been arranged with the complete knowledge of the distributor (I can't imagine them not doing so).

Additionally, the Castro Theatre doesn't "cut" any of the films they screen--they are a licensed Archival Theatre with licensed Archival Projectionists--that would be just... wrong. I imagine what they will do is thread GRINDHOUSE to the proper juncture, and run it from the point where DEATH PROOF starts--that is, unless they are getting it from Dimension Pictures as a stand-alone (in other words, just the DEATH PROOF reels). I dunno. But, I will have to ask next time I am over there--which should be in the next week.

One thing's for sure--I will be at this screening with my Zoe Bells on. B)

They got a ready-made singular film with GRINDHOUSE - perfect for this venue - and they want to chop it in two!!!

And this is a "Horror Festival" yet they're doubling up DEATH PROOF with VANISHING POINT? VP is anything but a "horror" film - whereas PLANET TERROR...uh, IS!

Who's programming this thing - the Weinsteins? :blink:

Seeing GRINDHOUSE without the trailers or PLANET TERROR is like going out to eat and only getting a rude waiter.

Please read all of the posts more carefully before jumping to conclusions -- thanks! The Castro Theatre is presenting a Double Feature in the mold of GRINDHOUSE, screening these films together, along with a bunch of '70s trailers. I posted this to let people know of the screening -- I am not involved in this presentation.

Again, this double feature isn't part of any "Horror Festival" -- it's a stand alone show on September 15th -- the show that I am organizer of is indeed a "Classic Horror Film Festival," SHOCK IT TO ME!, which takes place in October. We are screening DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED, KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, BLACULA, SUGAR HILL, and seven more fright films. We are not showing GRINDHOUSE in part or in whole, but Hammer star Veronica Carlson and director Joe Dante will be appearing live!

The implication with the banner ad placement of Shock it to Me on this forum is that DEATHPROOF is playing a double bill with VANISHING POINT at this event (even though the first post clearly gives September dates and the banner has the October dates).

I understand now that it is not...

That'll learn me to read things a little closer before reacting...

But dern it all - there's still no excuse to chop GRINDHOUSE in two!!!
