I don't know why but I always love convoluted ancestry in film.
DEATH SENTENCE, the new film by James (SAW, DEAD SILENCE) Wan starring Kevin Bacon, is technically a sequel to the Charles Bronson film DEATH WISH. How so? Well, the novel that DEATH SENTENCE is based on is Brian Garfield's sequel to his novel DEATH WISH. So Kevin Bacon is Paul Benjamin (Paul Kersey in the movies). The filmmakers changed his name to Nick Hume for some reason. And what is even weirder is, judging from the trailer, they haven't followed the plotline of DEATH SENTENCE and have instead remade DEATH WISH.
