Title: DEATH SENTENCE = the real DEATH WISH 2!

I don't know why but I always love convoluted ancestry in film.

DEATH SENTENCE, the new film by James (SAW, DEAD SILENCE) Wan starring Kevin Bacon, is technically a sequel to the Charles Bronson film DEATH WISH. How so? Well, the novel that DEATH SENTENCE is based on is Brian Garfield's sequel to his novel DEATH WISH. So Kevin Bacon is Paul Benjamin (Paul Kersey in the movies). The filmmakers changed his name to Nick Hume for some reason. And what is even weirder is, judging from the trailer, they haven't followed the plotline of DEATH SENTENCE and have instead remade DEATH WISH.

Anyway, here is the trailer:

And here is, quite possibly, the coolest cover for the book in the 70s:

I don't know about you guys, but underneath this there's a banner ad for something called THE BRAVE ONE, with Jodie Foster. This morning out of sheer curiousity I checked it out, and it looks like a DEATH WISH-ish (say that three times fast) thing, with a woman's pov.

Which is neither here nor there, but kind of interesting. What sparked this recent interest in vigilante movies again?

I am not a big fan of Garfield's work and actually prefer the movie to the book. But I am curious about this.
