Title: CULT OF THE DAMNED

Eric Cotenas - July 20, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
Just saw a trailer for this on YouTube. Is it any good? It's got classic Hollywood actress Jennifer Jones saying things like "In my heart of hearts, I'm a sexual clam." Its written and directed by Robert Thom (WITCH WHO CAME FROM THE SEA) so its also got that going for it.

Seems like something MGM would have dumped onto a double feature Midnight Movies disc before Sony took over.

Most of us know it better as ANGEL ANGEL DOWN WE GO, especially Morrissey since he made a song using that title. Since MGM did create a widescreen print for cable broadcast, yeah, it should have been a Midnight Movies DVD. Maybe Fox will give it a try next year.

But what to pair it with?

Well, Thom also wrote Aldrich's THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE, but I don't know if that's at Warner's now or not. I know it was "An Associates and Aldrich Production"...

Well, if ownership wasn't a problem, I'd love to see it paired with this film:

Utterly bonkers!

Love the trailer, own the soundtrack. The movie itself...meh.

Thom also wrote WILD IN THE STREETS (1968), also for AIP, so that would make a good double bill with the Jennifer Jones film.

It's the ideal one, but it's already double-billed with Corman's GAS-S-S-S, so, you know, if that's their bag, groovy, but I had to give it a skip for this scene.

Maybe pair it with RIOT ON SUNSET STRIP or Theodore J. Flicker's UP IN THE CELLAR?

Marc Edward Heuck - July 22, 2007 08:58 AM (GMT)
Granted, it involves a retitling that Flicker didn't approve, but I always thought 3 IN THE CELLAR (UP IN THE CELLAR's alternate title) should go with 3 IN THE ATTIC.

Thematically, I would double-bill CULT OF THE DAMNED with THE TODD KILLINGS, but the latter is owned by Warner. I'm also thinking of THE MANSON MASSACRE as being a suitable co-feature, but the rights, as well as print availability, would probably preclude that pairing.

Eric Cotenas - October 6, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
I still haven't seen CULT OF THE DAMNED but how about pairing it with THE DEVIL'S WIDOW (aka BALLAD OF TAM LIN - which Republic put out quite a while ago on a beautiful widescreen tape) - does MGM own this one?

Mike Mariano - October 7, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
THE LOVE-INS (1967) would be a good film to double-bill ANGEL with, but I assume Columbia owns that one. WILD IN THE STREETS would have been ideal, but since it's already been released, I'd have to go with RIOT ON SUNSET STRIP.
