I read at GreenCineDaily, who heard it from Hollywood Elsewhere, that Sherman Torgan, owner of The New Beverly Cinema, died unexpectedly yesterday while cycling in Santa Monica. A 1968 UCLA grad, Torgan bought the former vaudeville theater in 1978 and it has long been one of Hollywood's great rep cinemas. The New Beverly hosted the month-long Grindhouse festival in May of this year.
