Title: REVENGE OF THE NERDS - TV pilot

William S. Wilson - July 19, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
I rented the Special Edition of REVENGE OF THE NERDS recently. Still a fantastic movie but there is one really curious extra - the unaired pilot for the REVENGE OF THE NERDS TV series.

Now, I am usually wary of any project coming from cinemas to TV but this is the absolute worst. I can't imagine how such a funny concept was made so painfully unfunny (with even the same plot points being used). Anyway, behold the worst clip of all-time. If you can make it all the way through the 6 and a half minutes, you are a strong person.

"So, this is the power of a nerd?"
- ep. 8 of THE DAICHIS - EARTH'S DEFENSE FAMILY

No relevance to the thread, except I just watched it today.

Wow, that makes MOMMA'S FAMILY look like SEINFELD in comparison....

When was that produced?

And apropos of nothing, anyone remember an 80's sitcom called OPEN ALL NIGHT (IIRC) about a convenience store?

That NERDS pilot may well be the worst sitcom ever produced. I can't believe the writer, Eric Cohen, left his name on it, like it's something he should be proud of. On the other hand, considering his other writing credits include THE NANNY, DWEEBS, MR. RHODES and some Olsen Twins show, it may actually not be his worst work.

That NERDS pilot runs about 22 minutes, and is a major chore to get through. Acting, script, sets, laugh track, direction (by Peter Baldwin, who ain't exactly James Burrows or Jay Sandrich, but should have known better), music...all terrible.

Bit of trivia I found out while looking this up - Lightfield Lewis is the brother of Juliette Lewis and, obviously, the son of Geoffry.

Looks like it was produced in 1991.

Sean Kanan, the villain from Karate Kid Part III, "essays" the plum role of Todd Channing, Alpha Beta leader.

There are other respectable character actors in most of the other parts:

Those 6 minutes were no worse than anything in Saved By The Bell, from what I have seen of that abomination.

Robbie Rist as Booger????

Don't know about him... :D

Apparently he holds this distinction:

...but, Richard E. Gant and Art Evans are two of the finer characters around. Both also happen to be African-American, FWIW.

Gant was fun in the ridiculous Don King role in Rocky V and recently showed up on Deadwood. Evans was memorable in Die Hard 2 and A Soldier's Story. Both have racked up many other good credits over the last 25-30 years.
