Title: Subtitle problem with R1 GITS 2: INNOCENCE disc

Like a couple of other R1 discs of non-English films that I've watched lately, the Dreamworks Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence DVD has a subtitle track that includes bracketed descriptions of sound effects for the hearing impaired. I wish that these discs had a seperate "captions for the hearing impaired" subtitle track so that those of us who aren't don't have to keep reading [gun fires] or [door opens] as we read the subtitles. Maybe it's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, but it's still a little annoying. IIRC, the DVD of the previous Dreamworks/Go Fish anime release Millenium Actress didn't have this problem. (Are Millenium Actress and GITS 2 the only things Dreamworks has released through its anime division?)

Yeah, I did a separate post on this. I found a DreamWorks website and e-mailed someone there about this, but have yet to hear from them. I called their NYC office and got a message that they were closed until Jan. 3. Most of the reviews on Amazon.com point out this problem, so it sounds like a producer's or manufacturer's error afflicting the whole pressing. (The Amazon reviews that don't mention it were probably based on seeing the film in theaters.) Hopefully there'll be a recall and an offer to replace the discs.

I was supposed to review the disc for Animerica, but I'm not going to do so until I get a corrected version.

I think that in some cases, these "subtitles for the hearing impaired" might be dubtitles, but the Dreamworks GITS 2 disc only has Japanese audio tracks, which makes this error a little bit strange.
