Title: Steve Thrower's THE EYEBALL COMPENDIUM..
Description: Nothing is perverse!

I just received this yesterday, and it brought back a lot of entertaining memories of the original magazine. Steve Thrower's 'European Horror Review' fanzine was one of the best of the 90's UK crop of Eurocult/exploitation zines, and its collection into a spiffy Fab Press softcover is a very welcome thing. The articles and reviews are still by and large as fresh and amusing as when I first read them - including (for example) a hilarious Alan Jones interview with Brett Halsey, who bemoans his rotten experiences working on one of Fulci's last movies. Elsewhere, Thrower's review of VENUS IN FURS is one of my favourite pieces of writing on Jess Franco, and there's a whole world of great interviews and exploitation material discussed and lovingly revealed. The overall tone has more bite and substance than most other fanzines of the period managed, and its nice to see it all properly archived in a durable softcover. I personally wish that some other zines like Craig Ledbetter's ETC and Bob Sargent's VIDEOOZE could be similarly preserved.

As an aside, it was interesting to see how many former contributors have since pulled up roots and relocated to places like Germany, and very sad too to read (this was news to me) that BLOODY HELL! editor David Prothero commited suicide back in 2001. Anyway, I remember the UK fanzine scene of the mid to late 90's quite fondly, and this serves as a nice keepsake of some of those memorable times.
