Title: HD programming commercials

I was wondering how people on the board feel about those annoying hard-sell HD network programming commercials. You know, like the overlong 60 second DirectTV truth about HD television (there's one with a professional-looking woman and another with what I guess passes for a sophistocated Englishman) or the "I can pause it" or "If you don't have HD, you're in the dark ages" commercials featuring people who look like all they do is watch TV?

Even more annoying are the local news programs. It's one thing to introduce a segment as being presented in high definition, its another to have one of the anchors comment afterwards about the clarity of the picture.

I appreciate the higher defintion picture of HD (though I still think consumer HD cameras will output just as crappy video as SD without any useful manual controls and the know how to use it) but I doubt I'll get HD until I'm forced to. Perhaps I've read Ollman's "Alienation" one too many times but I kind of get this feed-the-masses-to-divert-their-attention-from-various-inequalities kind of vibe from the HD push (though that may have to do with how long it has taken the US to even start adapting HDTV standards).

Just a rant.
