The trailer for Robert Rodriguez & Frank Miller's SIN CITY is up for all to see, and it looks GREAT!
Mickey Roarke in the role he was born to play as Marv. Not a single case of bad casting judging from the trailer. With this and DOMINO coming soon, Mick should be on quite the comeback trail.

I saw the Sin City trailer in front of The Aviator on Saturday, and it does look very cool. (I also saw a trailer for Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, which looks promising, if a little bit recycled from Gladiator, and a rather uninspiring Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy teaser). In any case, I'm really excited that what is apparently a largely B&W noir film is going to get a wide release. Even though I would imagine that Robert Rodriguez handled the bulk of the directing duties (he also served as the DP, composer and editor like when he did Once Upon a Time in Mexico, the IMDB also credits him with the screenplay), it looks like Frank Miller definitely made an important visual contribution. Is it true that Quentin Tarantino directed a segment? The IMDB doesn't list him as a crew member, but I think I remember reading somewhere that he was going to.

There are quite a few comic book-based movies that have the creator on board as a producer or in some other role, but I can't think of too many that were actually directed or co-directed by the creator. Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira comes to mind, I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Speaking of Bruce Willis, the trailer for Nid De Guepes director Florent Siri's Hostage makes it look potentially pretty good even though the January release date would seem to indicate otherwise.

Judging from the trailer SIN CITY promises to be one of the most accurate comic book adaptations ever. It looks as if someone ripped the pages from the comic and stuck them up on the screen. Every detail is in place; the color scheme, the characer's appearences, the cars hoping over the bumps in the road, they even speak how I imagined they would sound.

I am very excited for this film.

All the compositions in the film were taken from the comic panels directly according to coverage from aintitcool.com. I think Tarantino did two days on the film, one particular scene from the A BIG FAT KILL section. Don't know which though.

Looks like fun, but I'm kind of disappointed in the use of makeup on Marv and That Yellow Bastard specifically. Don't get me wrong, they're accurate to the comic designs, but on screen they look a bit cartoony imo. Which is a bit of a different direction than the comic, which tended to be less cartoony and more gritty than the average comic artwork. I think I'd have preferred less accurate but more realistic casting/character design. Like say casting Ron Perlman as Marv.

I'm just nitpicking though, Rodriguez usually delivers an entertaining film. Should be good.

I'm very excited about this movie, although not without reservation.

While the very literal takes on the makeup and look is a cool idea, I can't help agreeing that it may turn out to be true to the literal look of the book at the expense of capturing how it feels to read. But I'm definitely keeping an open mind on that.

I'm also concerned because it seems like they may be seriously playing down the sleaze and nudity, which I think is actually an important part of the texture and not just an arbitrary or prurient choice by Miller. Of course, this could just be part of the advertising.

I'll be rushing out to see it, and hopefully the movie will ease all my concerns by itself.

As Henry already mentioned Tarantino directed the "A BIG FAT KILL" segment of Sin City. And he did it for princely sum of $1, the same amount of money Robert Rodriguez got paid for doing some soundtrack work on Kill Bill.
