Title: best buy and leone sets?
Description: anyone?
James Pagliuca - June 6, 2007 10:50 PM (GMT)
i went to my local best buy and they didnt have the leone box set OR the individual dvds! i got fed up and left the store...when i got home, i found them the best buy website, but NH, MA, NY had none of the dvd standalone's or the box set at any store (using the store/product locator)...
anyone else have this problem? they came out yesterday, right?

You're not alone.
Whoever is buying for Best Buy countrywide has been making extremely short-sighted and ill-informed decisions.
If you look for the Leone set on Bestbuy.com you will notice where it says In-store pickup NOT AVAILABLE. That's not even for a particular region- it shows up before you enter a zip code to find a store in your area. This means that not a single store in the entire Best Buy chain is carrying the collection- not ONE!
If you look up HD DVD titles, which I did a few days ago, you'll find about half or more of the available titles are not being carried in-stores at all. Wondering why CASABLANCA, THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE, possibly BULLITT (I'm going off of memory)and other big titles are prepetually out of stock? Because they are not carrying them and there's no standing order for them to ever get there...and these are not small titles.
I thought, perhaps it was conservative buying on Best Buy's part for HD DVD -they always seem to carry the Blu-ray discs though- but now its clear that its not limited to HD titles, it's standard DVD as well.

that is SO lame...
i can't beleive that they are carrying EL TOPO and THE HOLY MOUNTAIN, but not these definitive leone editions...

After seeing that Best Buy doesn't stock them, I immediately ordered a few to stick on my shelf.
The set IS pricey, so that might have affected their decision.

For what it's worth, I live in Canada, and received an email from amazon.ca stating their is a delay on my order for these titles....could they be late?
Has anyone seen these anywhere?
Sorry, Marc....did you actually receive the stock you ordered for your store?

I can't attest for the Box set but I ordered the 3 new special edition sets (Duck You Sucker, Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More) and I got an email that they shipped out today.
I don't think i can mention the e-tailer but theyre a big one.

My local Best Buy did not have the Leone films, but a local Fred Meyer store did. They had the titles separately, priced at $19.95 each. I don't know if they had the box set or not. The Best Buy did have the two new Classic Media Japanese science fiction DVDs (GHIDORAH and INVASION OF ASTRO MONSTER).
Neither chain had THE HILL with Sean Connery (hey, it's in black and white!). However, a local Silver Platters store had the Connery disc.

My local Costco had at least a dozen copies of the box set for $54.99.

F.Y.E. of all places has it for a very reasonable 64.99...

deep discount dvd was 18.44 each after taking the DVDTALK 20% discount....no real reason to buy the box set since i already have the GBU special edition...
Reginald Bixby - June 7, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
I got mine exactly how James (above) did - (DDD w/20% disc, etc) and didnt buy the box set because i got the GBU sp.edition already--
My 3 titles arrived today.
I was a bit dissappointed that the pkging on the rest of these special editions wasnt as 'special' as the GBU one.

Not only is the Canadian release not delayed, but HMV is selling these titles at an incredible price. I don't know if they have some kind of deal with MGM/Fox or someone has made an error, but their prices are 50-60% cheaper than the other chains I checked. The four films are selling individually for C$15 (each carries a 2/$30 sticker) and the eight disc set is only C$50! Another store in the same mall here in Guelph had the individual titles priced at C$38 each and the box at C$120!

I also ordered 'em from Deep Discount, but using the sale code they only came to $14.75 a pop. Are you sure you entered your code correctly?
