Title: Aisle check and/or insider information...
Description: on ACCION MUTANTE and other titles

Boaz Dror - December 28, 2004 08:33 AM (GMT)
ACCION MUTANTE... I know there's a cheap and OOP dvd, not worth the $, but does anybody know if the recent releases of DYING OF LAUGHTER and LA COMUNIDAD bode well for ACCION MUTANTE and DIA DE LA BESTIA, as far as region 1 discs? I'd think these 2 titles would be the ones to launch de la Iglesias into the american psyche...

Also, any word on AMAZING STORIES? I really want to see this 80's TV series again, especially now that the Twilight Zone, circa 1980's is being released.

How about the Australian film, BLISS? With OSCAR AND LUCINDA coming out, surely this could have been a tie-in? After all, they're both based on Peter Carey novels. That's a stretch, I know...

Or how about Jack Arnold's long overdue masterpiece, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN? Or his other long overdue masterpiece, THE MONOLITH MONSTERS? Sure they're sci-fi, but they have a cult following! (defending the placement of this topic)

And has anyone seen Jeff Goldblum's MR. FROST? It's good enough to merit a DVD release, no?

And where's POINT BLANK?
And is anyone working on THE REFLECTING SKIN? or SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE? Are we deaf to the creepy films of other countries? And will Anchor Bay be releasing Wim Wender's STATE OF THINGS, or do we have to get somebody else to do it?

And finally, what of ZENTROPA, for American audiences. I know THE KINGDOM's probably tied up, rights-wise, thanks to Mr. King, but Zentropa would make a good R1 release...

I have these open spaces in my collection just waiting.

I never saw it confirmed as fact, but I've seen people mention on various dvd boards that The Incredible Shrinking Man would be part of a third Universal Monsters Legacy collection sometime in 2005.

As for Point Blank, after Gunga Din this is my only 'Must Have On DVD' that hasn't been released yet(except for Danger: Diabolik, which is coming out). Haven't heard a thing, and it's frustrating. Especially since there's a nice widescreen transfer that's been used on TCM showings in the past year, so there's not much excuse.

Zentropa is another I'd like to see on dvd...it's been playing rather frequently on IFC of late so maybe there's a chance.

Speaking of POINT BLANK - Turner Classic is airing the widescreen version of the film again this December 30th at 2:00 am, EST.

I wish they would get around to closed-captioning this version of the film. It's a great print, but I'm stuck with keeping my old pan-and-scan VHS copy of the movie for this reason alone.
