Title: Bury Me an Angel (Barbara Peeters, 1972)
Marc Morris - May 6, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
Just wondered if anybody here has the laserdisc release of this?
Ian Maguire - May 6, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
This is a thread hijack, but I can't help myself here because BURY ME AN ANGEL is probably the most extreme example of a movie with the coolness of the video box being inversely proportionate to the quality of the film.

This is one of the few LD's that I don't ever recalling coming across a copy of. I'd surely have bought it if I had.

I found the laserdisc of this several years ago at Half-Price Books, and sold it afterwards for basically shipping along with another biker film that New World Video had released. One of the worst cases of laser rot I've ever seen (believe it was a Technidisc pressing). The print itself was in good shape, from what I could tell.

This title was notorious for laser rot.

My copy has laser rot too, which is why I wondered if anybody here had one in good condition.

Well...the coolness of the whole ad campaign (print, radio, etc.) to BURY ME AN ANGEL was inversely proportionate to the quality of the film.
But when I see or hear those old ads - they make me want to see the movie, hoping it isn't as crappy as it really is. As if it can somehow redeem itself...
"A howling hellcat humping a hot steel hog on a roaring rampage of revenge..."
And...IMHO, the video box pretty much sucks...

We know that Joe Dante and Allan Arkush worked in the trailer department at New World for awhile, but does anyone know who wrote the copy for the trailers?

That's a great question because here's a case of how they were able to distill the baser elements of the film into an ideal - if not provocative - tease. Whoever wrote the trailer copy for BURY ME AN ANGEL really "got" the concept of cinematic trash and how to exploit it to the hilt...
I'd be more proud of writing the ad copy for BURY ME AN ANGEL than if I'd penned WAR AND PEACE... :D

Speaking of which, I can never see this title without thinking to myself --
"Gonna a gun and ...
...
...
... BURY ME AN ANGEL!"
The long pause there just makes it perfect, I believe.
Neven had the laser, although I've had others get hit hard with rot; usually music-oriented lasers. Even my well-kept copy of KATE BUSH - THE WHOLE STORY is starting to finally show some signs of it.
And how often do you get Kate Bush mentioned in a thread about BURY ME AN ANGEL?
