I looked in the Arts & Leisure section of tomorrow's New York Times (always delivered with Saturday's paper), and scanned the 2004 Ten Best lists of the paper's two chief critics, A.O. Scott and Manohla Dargis. Scott included Satoshi Kon's TOKYO GODFATHERS in his top ten and Dargis included Mamoru Oshii's GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE in hers. What a nice Christmas present. The joy is tempered somewhat by Scott's misspelling of Kon's name as Takoshi Kon.
(Each critic had another Asian film in their lists as well: Scott had Tsai Ming-Liang's GOODBYE DRAGON INN and Dargis had Li Yang's BLIND SHAFT.)
