Title: Tarantino on Leno

Chris Barry - March 27, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
Alright - as big a fan as I am of QT, I have to say his appearance on Leno (March 26), was pretty lame. He's a great writer but his "story" about first going to a "grindhouse" with his mother's black boyfriend when Quentin was 11 or 12, was a bust...he shot for a "punchline" but it fell so flat he had to repeat it three times with barely a chuckle from the audience. Ouch. (He's a better interview in "straight" situations like Charlie Rose...Leno's format demands "funny," which translates - at times such as these - to forced).

Plus - he talked about the chase scene in GRINDHOUSE as being non-CGI (an admirable feat) but the supporting clip was from PLANET TERROR - Rodriguez's segment (even though Tarantino was the main actor in the clip, which looked kinda creepy but Tarantino, as an actor, is a distraction. We'll see how it works in the actual film)...I was hoping for a clip from the chase (although a commercial from the film ran during the show, which included a great clip from...the chase!).

And - Tarantino also mentiond that the chase involves two cars - a Dodge Charger and a Dodge Challenger - yet the car shown in photos looks like a 1970s vintage Chevy Nova.

DEATH PROOF

Have you read the script for DEATH PROOF?

Talk about lame-o.

Personally, I wouldn't go near the script before seeing the film.

Takes all the fun away- and the little moment to moment surprises that makes cinema so much fun.

I agree that you'll be experiencing several "moment-to-moment" surprises.

Precious few of them, however, will be fun.

Without seeing it, how do you know?

Because I can read. :)

As Nicholas Ray said, "If it was all in the script, why bother to make the movie"
