Title: Euro Fiends from Beyond the Grave
Description: Retromedia triple feature

I recently picked this up and checked it out. First off, one of the issues with Retromedia's single disc release of FACELESS MONSTER has been fixed: the chirping, cricket-like sounds during the beginning of the film have been removed from the soundtrack.

SATANIK looks to be the same as the earlier single disc release, uncut but pan & scan. Still, I like the film and was glad to get it in this set, as I'd been trying to replace a deteriorating tape I have but was finding Retromedia's OOP single disc to be fairly pricey.

After spot-checking the other two, I watch THE RED HEADED CORPSE in its entirety. I had never heard of this film before, and it's difficult to classify. Not quite a giallo, I guess you'd call it a psycho-thriller about a mad artist. (It's not listed in the book of giallo reviews, "Blood and Black Lace.") It's directed by Renzo Russo, who also helmed a few obscure mondos in the early 60s (MONDO CALDO DI NOTTE, SEXY, TROPICO DI NOTTE). One cool thing about RED HEADED CORPSE: at one point, Erika Blanc wears the exact same dark blue outfit she wears in THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE, the outfit with two big circles exposing the upper part of her breasts and her stomach and belly button. It sure knocked me out of my late night stupor when I saw that!

Great news about FACELESS MONSTER! Those added noises drove me crazy.

I have the Private Screenings tape of RED HEADED CORPSE (under the title "Sweet Spirits"), but I have no memory of ever watching it. You would think I'd remember Erika wearing that cool outfit again!
