Title: Anybody catch THE RICHES the other night?

I didn't really have any idea what the show was about beyond the basic premise: a family of grifters living the high life. Turns out they are travellers -- Irish American gypsies -- and they have a falling out with their gypsy clan and hit the road.
I was surprised at first by the presence of Brits Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver in a weekly US drama. But Driver's film career hasn't really been popping since AN IDEAL HUSBAND in 1999. Maybe tv seemed like a better option for her at this point in her career. It's a juicy role for sure. And she and Izzard are surprisingly believable as a couple.
You can catch repeats of the pilot Saturday night at 10:00 and Sunday night at 11:00 before episode 2 debuts Monday night at 10:00. On FX.

I did record it the other night but haven't gotten around to watching yet. I intend to tonight or tomorrow the show looks fairly promising.

I didn't enjoy it too much...it was willfully eccentric, and Izzard and Driver are fresh television faces so it was mildly interesting to see them, even though I don't find either particularly compelling actors. The show itself was uninvolving -- it set up some strange predicaments and stories for the characters, but I didn't really care...
As there was so little I was watching regularly this season (30 Rock and House and, err, American Hot Rod) I tried to give a lot of the new shows a chance this week; I liked the Goldblum RAINES best, largely because I like Goldblum. That was no sure shot; I hate HOUSE-wannabe SHARK even with James Woods. Andy Richter's show was amusing, and sure to be cancelled after its six run (and probably before), but I'll stick with it. Riches was the most ambitous of the the three, but unless I'm home next Monday I won't go out of my way...

Driver was very funny in the last few seasons of WILL & GRACE as a foil for Megan Mullally.

I notice this thread was started ages ago and I was wondering if anyone else is following this compelling show. I just happened to turn on the second episode in the middle of a marathon a couple of weeks ago and I got hooked. The writing is fantastic and the acting - especially by the younger members of the cast - is great. Izzard doesn't always click into his role, but when he's good he's very good. It's becoming one of the few shows I look forward to watching.

I'm still recording it but I haven't watched it since the 2nd episode. I'm just never quite in the mood. At least I finally cleared all the BBC-America "Crimes of Passion" two-parters from a year ago off my DVR. 8-]
