(I put this question here because the concert was originally shown on TV.)
Before David Bowie legendarily sacked his backing band onstage at this incredible last performance, he brought out guitar great Jeff Beck to trade licks with Mick Ronson on "The Jean Genie". And not since that first broadcast, to my knowledge, has this footage ever been shown again. It's safe to assume that Beck is withholding the rights for such an occurrence, but does anyone know the particulars about this? Each time they reissue Pennebaker's film of the show I grind my teeth to see it's not part of the program and wonder why they would go ahead with the release without this well-remembered part of Bowie history.
I saw this sequence on You Tube recently and there was some brief discussion underneath the clip saying that Jeff Beck did not like his hair cut/jeans or some such and so withheld permission for this Jean Genie sequence. Watching it back just now (I saved it off) as they seque into a brief Love Me Do (and back), could this be another reason the clip is not available?
Anyhow, Beck is playing bottleneck style through the song until his second solo (in same song) where he and Mick Ronson take a turn each to centre stage. Nothing exactly catches fire, Bowie plays harmonica (no Ziggy on guitar here) and it is standard footage - nothing to be ashamed of here.

Hey Andrew,
Do you have a link for that footage? I've trudged through 12 pages of search results and haven't come up with anything.
thx

Like most of the good stuff, You Tube has pulled many music vids these past three weeks. I was trying to keep up a website of music links I liked, and that is how I noticed.
