Title: Soldier Blue - new R1 DVD

Can anyone confirm whether this is actually the uncut version? Some posters on Amazon claim so.
The UK R2 DVD is still cut largely due to distributor pre-edits to remove material they thought the BBFC would cut (and likely guessed wrongly as the BBFC draw attention to these distributor cuts on their website making the point that the distributors removed a horsefall that they wouldn't have cut).
Thanks

. . . so, how does one tell - the running time looks correct at 115 minutes, but a few cut frames would not change that . . . regarding the horses, they seem to be falling here and there, the closing carnage certainly appears to be everything I have read about, but this is the first time I have seen SOLDIER BLUE (1970) so I could be missing some cut or other . . . there is good news for fans in that after early reports this R1 DVD would be full frame, it actually appeared as a 16x9 anamorphic transfer of a scope print in excellent condition . . .

The UK print is missing some shots of horses brought down by trip wires (the shot of Donald Pleasence's horse going down is an obvious missing one). The DVD is also apparently missing the shot of the decapitation - although this was included in earlier VHS releases - as well as some "detail" of the rape which I don't know what that exactly means as I've never seen an uncut print.
Still, if its a nice W/S print I may get as due to exchange rates the US DVD is cheaper than the UK one !!

I have seen the uncut version of SOLDIER BLUE and a BBFC-certified video from the mid-eighties as well as a BBC broadcast a few years ago. The two censored versions both remove portions from a rape which occurs during the massacre scene, most noticable is a nasty shot of a soldier slicing a knife into a woman's breast.

I have both the Dutch Kinowelt (supposedly completely uncut) and the new R1 Lionsgate discs. I've just looked at both and they appear to be identical, except for the presence at the beginning on the LG of the Avco Embassy logo and an MPAA 'R' rating tag. In particular, the rape/mutilation and decapitation sequences are present in both and include the following frequently-excised bits: the breast-cutting mentioned above, the bare buttocks of the soldier rapist, and the nude, bloodied corpse of an Indian woman hanging from a tent frame. Of course, all the horsefalls are present as they have been in all versions released in the US.
If you're interested in the film, there's no reason not to get the Lionsgate disc. It's inexpensive and sports a fairly clean, anamorphic transfer, although obviously no restoration work has been done to the elements. One caveat: the cover artwork is an awful photoshop job.
