Title: More Borowczyk?

Just saw IMMORAL WOMEN today and was very impressed with the first story (the longest) starring Borowczyk regular Marina Pierro. The other two weren't as interesting. Marcelline was based on a story by Andre Pieyre de Mandiargues (who wrote IMMORAL TALES and the novel TOUT DISPARAITRA which Borowczyk adapted for LOVE RITES) while the third story about a woman and her doberman was the least interesting. The disc was totally worth it for the first tale alone. Pierro looks like she really could have served as the model for some of those paintings and the labyrinthine scaffolding is an impressive creation. The optional English dub track was also very impressive with good voice casting and line readings (the pope sounded like he was dubbed by Michael Gambon).

The image quality is also excellent which lets us hope that other unreleased Borowczyk films will surface in similar condition.

Haven't seen - and actually wasn't even aware of - the new DVD of THREE IMMORAL WOMEN / LES HEROINES DU MAL (not aware it ever being called IMMORAL WOMEN before) but having seen the film in various formats (on film, VHS, LD and DVD...not bad for an "unreleased" film! :D ) and lengths over the years I was always partial to the second episode, with Gaelle Legrand perfectly cast as the "heroine", but would agree the last episode always seem like bad choice of story, perhaps one that would have been best realised by a different director.

I'm not really partical to his COLLECTIONS PRIVEES (also recently released by Severin) contribution either, I prefer the Terayama story. The Jaeckin one with Laura Gemser is nice to look at but rather empty.

I'd like to see a new release of THE ART OF LOVE, too.

I have posted reviews with screencaps for IMMORAL WOMEN here and PRIVATE COLLECTIONS here.
