Title: CANNIBAL (2005) - Dir. Marion Dora
Description: Sickest most disturbing film ever?

I've seen a lot of graphic and disturbing horror movies, but I watched this one last night (it's available on DVD from Unearthed Films) and it takes the cake as the most demented thing I've seen in a long time. The fact that it's based on a true story of Armin Meiwes, the German 'Rotenberg Cannibal', from several years ago just makes it even more disturbing. A gay man into cannibalistic fetishism advertises on-line for a willing victim. The cannibal wants to eat the victim and the victim must want to be mutilated and eaten by the cannibal. He finds a victim who is so sexually deranged that he does want to be mutilated, killed, and eaten. What follows is extremely graphic - this is over-the-edge beyond anything I've seen - and it's creepy score by Jim Thirlwell of Foetus just rams the horror of it all home. I can only imagine some young horror fan renting this thinking it looks fun and then being hit over the head with the explicit nature of this film. Any horror movie that gets under my skin these days is a big accomplishment since I feel I am somewhat desensitized to the genre. But I can't shake this one out of my head.

Anyway, just curious if any other Mobians out there have seen it and what they thought about it. I read one review that called it pretentious crap, but I didn't feel that at all and I'm usually the guy that throws those words around. There's supposedly another movie from last year based on the same real case called "Rohtenburg" starring Keri Russell and Thomas Kretschmann ("The Stendahl Syndrome"), but the on-line trailer for that one looks like it may be a bit too polished. Still, it may be interesting, and if it ever gets released, I'll probably check it out.
