Oh you have got to be kidding me.

I actually think an interesting film could be made of this novel. Replace Smith with, I dunno, Daniel Auteuil, get Polanski to direct.

I've got nothing against Will Smith, he seems like a very nice guy. And that's why he is totally wrong for this role.

edit:

I just read that again & see that Smith is producing, not starring.

I'll bet all the novel's ambiguities go right out the window. And why else film this novel? There must be another novel that tells a similar story in a more straightforward manner with a definite resolution. Maybe they will also issue a new novelization, as happened with BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA.

Between set visits to his producing project, Smith is currently being pursued around the Brooklyn Bridge by 1,000 vampirized extras for I AM LEGEND, the most "New York" New York movie made in some years. I've already seen a smash-up at Herald Square and a car chase down 5th Avenue in the 20s, and the film doesn't stop shooting till March for a December release. The nighttime bridge shoots (through next week) are something to see; the huge outdoor lights are underlighting the bridge quite handsomely, too bad they also shine right in everyone's eyes when passing over the river on the Manhattan Bridge, at least last Wed... :)

If it's ging to be set in the Carribean, I'd like to see Don Cheadle in the role with Carl Franklin directing.

Or how about Isaach De Bankolé with Claire Denis directing!

Or Chiwetel Ejiofor with Stephen Frears directing!

(This game is fun.)
