Title: ESTHER AND THE KING lbx on FMC?
John Black - December 21, 2004 06:56 AM (GMT)
The January issue of Satellite Direct magazine claims that Fox Movies Channel will be airing a letterboxed print of ESTHER AND THE KING several times during that month. The magazine's information is sometimes incorrect, but here's hoping that Mario Bava's cinematography will indeed appear in widescreen. I guess this means that Fox doesn't consider the film strong enough to be released onto DVD, ala THE 300 SPARTANS.

This is indeed great news, if it's true. There is, in fact, a DVD of KING out there but it's Full Frame.

According to the Fox Movie Channel website, it will be airing--letterboxed--this Sunday, 1/2, at 12:05pm, EST. Not only will it be nice to see Bava's photography, but it will also be nice to see Rosalba Neri on the big, wide screen. Thanks for the heads up!

That's great. Confirmation. Of course, I don't have Fox Movie Channel but maybe this'll spawn a new Fox dvd in the future.

WOW! This looked great and several sequences were beautiful and just screamed Mario! Overall the movie is not my usual cup of tea, but some of the shots and Rosalba Neri's brief but quite memorable role put this in my do not erase videotape file. There were 2 scenes where Rosalba was streched out across the screen that made me want to go out and buy a larger montitor!
I would strongly advise Bava and Neri fans to give this a look, but watch out for the broadcast on the 28th. FMC schedule says this one's P/S, all the others are LBX. I can't imagine the full screen version does this justice.
Thanks, as if it were not for Mobius, I would have missed this one.
