I popped in my AB disc of INFERNO (which is strangely the only DVD release of the film compared to the multitude of alternate releases available for other Argento films) and noticed that the trailer seemed to have some alternate sound effects and some different dubbing. I'm wondering if those sound effects are for the trailer or if they reflect the Italian sound mix. The narrator has a different voice in the trailer (not as effective as the one in the film) and Eleonora Giorgi's Sara (at least her English dubbed voice) says "What?" in response to the bookbinder's "The book!" before he grabs her in the trailer.
I know trailers sometimes feature outtakes not used in the film itself but do they also feature perhaps earlier drafts of sound mixing?
Also, does anyone know if Argento played the INFERNO score (or some other music) on set the way he is supposed to have done with SUSPIRIA? The scene with Sara in the taxi reading the letter seems as though its choreographed to the music (since the piece in the film is Emerson's version of "Va Pensiero" it reflects an accelerated timing of Verdi's piece rather than being edited to match the action)... either that or those who have noted Daria Nicolodi's silent film gestures in TENEBRAE need to take a look at this scene.
BTW, has anyone noticed some interesting production parallels between INFERNO and Bertolucci's LA LUNA? They're both co-produced by 20th Century Fox in 1979 (with the same production administrator) and both feature Veronica Lazar (in a larger role in Bertolucci's film and possibly her real voice) and Alida Valli.

My understanding is that Emerson composed the score to the film.
In WORLD OF HORROR, Argento says "Emerson composed the soundtrack to INFERNO right in front of me, while watching a workprint of the movie over." Regarding SUSPIRIA, I think in Alan Jones' PROFONDO ARGENTO it's pointed out that while Goblin did record a "score" to the SUSPIRIA script that was often played back on set during shooting, when the film was finished they went back and redid all the music to the movie itself. It'd be interesting to compare the "script" version of the score to what ended up in the final film.
Eric, for another example of different voices during Euro-cult trailers, check out the International trailers for both Argento's OPERA and Fulci's THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. In the case of OPERA, several of the characters have completely different (and clearly dubbed) voices in the trailer compared to the film, while HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY features the same VOICES, but completely different dialogue*.

The HOUSE trailer also includes the bit of dialogue that should go over the additional shot included on Anchor Bay's THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY dvd as a silent easter-egg extra. The AB disc says they couldn't locate the audio- interesting, since the trailer for the film on their very disc has the only lines of dialogue spoken during that shot!
