The demented Canadian series TWITCH CITY is finally available on DVD. I meant to watch just a couple of episodes last night but I ended up watching the entire first series and a couple of episodes of series 2. Also listened to Don McKellar's seat-of-the-pants commentaries on "I Slept With My Mother" and "I Look Like Joyce DeWitt". McKellar was hoping to get other cast members on the phone, but neither Callum Keith Rennie [busy with BATTLESTAR GALACTICA] nor Molly Parker [pregnant in LA and at her doctor's] could be reached. McKellar actually called their cell phones during the commentary and left voice mail. Daniel MacIvor [Nathan] did call in during episode 1, and Mark McKinney [season 2 Rex Reilly] called in during episode 3 [which featured season 1 Rex Reilly, Bruce McCulloch]. I was a bit saddened to learn that McKinney is responsible for writing the comedy bits for STUDIO 60 [saddened because they aren't funny].
Anyway, it's a great show, even if the DVD extras are practically nonexistent. Other than the two commentaries, there's nothing but some text bios of McKellar, Parker and producer/director Bruce McDonald and a brief and largely pointless photo gallery. It's too bad they couldn't get the cast together for some kind of retrospective.
I got the DVD through amazon.ca, after multiple delays. Amazon US lists it as available on Feb. 20, 2007.
