How are the films BLACK VENUS, LADY LIBERTINE, LOVE CIRCLES, and CHRISTINA from the DVD company Private Screenings?
The first two were produced by Harry Alan Towers and are period pieces (the former with Florence Guerin). At SRP $29.95 (usually $19.95 online), they seem rather pricey for barebones releases (even with DDD and DVD Planet's current sales).
There are reviews of the titles up over at Mondo Digital:
http://www.mondo-digital.com/afterdark.htmlI picked up BLACK VENUS when it came out and wasn't exactly floored by the quality. As the review states, they're definitely not new, film-sourced transfers, instead using older tape-based masters (probably created for cable broadcast). For such a high retail price, I was expecting better.
Did these have any theatrical play anywhere (Europe?) because the tape-based masters may be all that is available if these were made for TV. If the negative elements themselves still exist then they're probably not conformed and probably not preserved. If they show up cheaper later on (like some of BU's releases coming out in 2-packs) then I might pick them up.
