Title: Bruno Mattei's ISLAND OF THE LIVING DEAD
Description: Zombie master returns!

William S. Wilson - October 27, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
Twitch has an update up on the latest Bruno Mattei flick called ISLAND OF THE LIVING DEAD. Judging from the synopsis, ol' Bruno is up to his old tricks and ripping off films. Unfortunately, he appears to be ripping of Uwe Boll's HOUSE OF THE DEAD (right down to Spanish conquistadors and a Captain Kirk!). The trailer looks great though with lots of gory and goofy looking bits.

I like how they not only feel the need to emphasize that the captain of the ship is called Captain Kirk, then go on to emphasize the emphasis.

Oddly enough, they have an engineer on board and neglected to call him Scotty.

The movie looks stupid, but I haven't kept up with Vincent Dawn output and this may be his modus operandi of late, but they sound like they are missing the skills of Euro Master of post sync audio Nick Alexander and his address book of voice artistes. Add an outtake or two from Simonetti and this might have been cooking!

Is there a good Nick Alexander website article/resource? I remember seeing one photo with a Eurocult fan somewhere, and briefly asked UK movie audio mixer Ernie Marsh (Warwick Dubbing Theatre) what was the score with the Italian scene of the late 70s and early 80s. Hereabouts there was an attempt to namecheck the voice artists - is this 'lost' information?

The trailer looks cheap, but I'm assuming it's aimed more for the AFM then for a general audience.

That said, it definitely looks as if Mattei is up to his old tricks again. Which is good or bad, depending on one's point of view :).

It is good in my opinion! I downloaded and watched the trailer and this looks more promising than last year's dreadful THE TOMB. It may be looking stupid and cheap and it may be a straight-to-video feature but keep in mind Mattei is the last of the Italians, going on making trashy zombie films today! Well Argento, Lamberto Bava and Soavi remain active but nobody makes them like Bruno does :)

You know, guys like Uwe Boll come up, and everyone is thinking, "Is this the face of schlock horror today?" Then Bruno Mattei ambles by and shows us what TRUE schlock filmmaking is by cheaply ripping off the guy who was cheaply ripping off his old cheap rip-offs. THAT, my friends, is filmmaking.
