Title: Any info on the Blind Dead box?

Mathias Jonsson - December 16, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)
I've heard that BLUE UNDERGROUND ( together with ANCHOR BAY ??) is to release all three of DeOsssorio's Blind Dead films.

Anyone here who know anything about this release and if there is a preliminary releasedate??

Hopefully they will release the Spanish versions as they are the complete versions, the English versions prepared by ATLAS were cut, as in EL ATAQUE.. for example there are whole scenes excised (such as a scene where the village idiot kills a woman as an offering to the templars).

There were four Blind Dead films......

This is due out in late 2005, Nov or maybe Dec. Blue Underground is releasing it and honcho Bill Lustig recently said they were done with the first 2 films and the third and fourth were close behind. He also mentioned that they were having trouble finding uncut elements for the fourth film, NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS, but that they had finally found them.
Curious as I'd imagine the second film ( ATTACK / RETURN ) would be the hardest to find uncut. It's still a long way off but alot of fans are really salivating like a Templar hovering over Britt Nichols waiting for this set, myself among them.

Sorry for my slip... :).
Of course it was four films, I have all of them on tape.

According to Allan Bryce (DARK SIDE MAGAZINE) Redemption had at the time of their VHS release of RETURN aquired an uncut version of this title, but they were forced to release the cut English version :(.

My version of LA NOCHE DE LAS GAVIOTAS (film nr.4) is a german version, and although it contains the introductory offering scene, it seems to be atleast slightly trimmed.

Is the box to be released as all region or just region 1?

Not true. We we sent screeners of both TOMBS and RETURN, which were both incomplete English language dubbed versions. I insisted to the licensor that the Spanish versions of both would be more complete, so after a lot of hassle and agreeing to pay for a new transfer, TOMBS was telecined from the archive Spanish vault materials. We couldn't afford to ger RETURN done, hence it has stayed this way ever since.

Are the current (I guess now OOP) Blind Dead films from Anchor Bay cut? Or are these the same transfers as you used, Marc?

It will be interesting to see how the ending of the first Blind Dead film is presented, as there are two distinctly different endings, incorporating two different shots with music running over them. In one the final scene is frozen for several seconds while the motion continues in a reverse zoom. One isn't really cut, it's just different. Maybe they'll do it as an Easter egg. If there are any uncut versions of Return that we haven't seen, it will likely be with the German licensor, Dieter Mentz (correct spelling?) whom I believe has all the "vault elements" that BU would need to master from.
Any side bets that "vault elements" will figure prominently on the back of the packaging? I'm sure that Blue Underground's set will be as definitive as we are ever likely to see, complete with trailers, galleries and the like, but who could they interview for a featurette? Ossorio is dead, and I can't see Mimsy Farmer consenting to any interviews. Maybe they'll do one about the remastering process itself, or about tracking down the materials. It's maybe a weak idea, but I remember how they were beat up about Zombie lacking a featurette. I recall one review which referred to it as a bare bones disc even though it had Trailers, Radio spots, a new Fulci bio and about 500 stills, broken up over several galleries. I've heard that they gain access to all the materials from the Media Blasters release and will combine all the extras that have appeared on the Anchor Bay, BU and MB releases, with an added soundtrack for a three or four disc special edition (in Hi Def) at some point down the line. For this reason, I've held off on buying any of them, but this will not be the case with the BLIND DEAD COLLECTION, so I'll be lining up like everybody else to get mine imported upon release.

De Ossario on-camera interviews exist, like the one used in the Eurotika! television series. Hopefully some sort of deal can be worked for their use.

From what I'm hearing is that they are having a hard time finding the 4th film uncut. The current print they have is in really bad shape...whats' the lowdown on this?

Anthony Thorne - December 22, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
Where are you hearing this?

Steve Genier - December 23, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
Where I heard it from doesn't matter, I would just like to know if anyone else has heard this or have any details if this is indeed the case in question.

Steve, the only reason I asked is that you just stated "the current print they have is in really bad shape", and then you ask if that's actually true or if anyone else has heard any more details. If you heard this from BU, then I guess it's likely to be the case. If you simply read it on the web elsewhere though, then maybe it could be just a rumour, hence my question. My guess is that if BU have any difficulties they'll probably sort them out.

Actually, Steve, it does matter. I refer you to the applicable section of the posting policy:

I'm sorry, I meant Maria Perschy who very recently passed away. I must have cross-wired her with Mimsy Farmer since BU are also supposed to release 4 FLIES.
