I finally watched this Gary Sinise sci-flick last night and will watch the original short tonight. I'm very curious about it's odd history. Can anyone point me to an informative link or give me the whole story?
IMPOSTER started life as 1/3 of an Miramax produced sci-fi anthology (often referred to as the LIGHT YEAR trilogy). Apparantly the studio liked the dailes so much that they decided to make IMPOSTER into a feature. Of course, after investing $40 million dollars in it, the studio sat on it for years, gave it various release dates which it never made and then dumped it in January 2002.
As for the other pieces of the anthology, MIMIC started its life as another chapter in this but grew and went the same route. The third segment, directed by Danny Boyle and titled ALIEN LOVE TRIANGLE, has never been officially released but Boyle has screened it at festivals.
Didn't realize that MIMIC was in the planned anthology.
I looked it up on IMDB and noted this under "Trivia" for MIMIC:
>>Director Guillermo del Toro disowned the film.
Is this true? If so, why? Haven't seen it since original release, but I remember liking it a lot.
