Anyone catch this last night?

Interesting concept, a forensic expert working for the Miami police is himself a serial killer, but only going after the really sick killers. Nicely done.

I was pleasantly entertained throughout and will be back for the rest of the run. The overall tone was not exactly what I expected ( it was darker, more honest and not tongue in cheek as I had suspected ) and by the end of the episode things had developed a nice twist to indicate the direction the story is set to follow over the next 10 weeks.
The acting was hitting pretty much all the right notes for me as well. I was not sure I wanted to see Michael C. Hall in this role but he seems perfect for it, and certainly has had some experience dealing with dead bodies on TV. For a serial killer psychotic, the character comes off quite likable due to Hall's work here. The rest of the cast worked for me too. Julie Benz, Lauren Valez and Jennifer Carpenter are top shelf and David Zayas is perfect in his role, his scenes with Hall's Dexter were highlites.
I liked the concept as well, that something horrible happend to Dexter as a child and as a result, he has a compulsion to take lives, and has found an ideal way to work through his problem, chipping away at those responsible for the unsolved murders in Miami ( a whopping 80% of all the deaths ). I'd say Showtime has a winner on it's hands, and togther with BROTHERHOOD, they have pulled themselves up a few notches in the original programming department. The teaser for THE TUDORS that follwed last night did not exactly wow me but as I discovered with DEXTER, you can't always judge a series by it's promos.

They showed two episodes back to back, no? I taped from 10-midnight. The teaser wowed me (I was monitring that pasrt of the taping), in that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in THE TUDORS, and I has a jones for him. Ahem.

Pretty sure they just reran the first episode again from 11-midnight.

Well, either way, I got it - thanks!

Putting aside my disdain for Showtime series, and for former HBO star Michael C. Hall (he just sort of bugs me) I watched the premiere episode. I'd still be interested in reading Jeff Lindsay's acclaimed source novel, but the show strikes me as SAW the series, or HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL DO-GOODER. Moral relativism is really being pushed to distasteful extremes here. Tim Lucas has some good blogging on it:

Hey, is Tim Lucas going to save us from serial killers? I think not. He has to finish the Bava book. Unless you are willing to walk a mile in Dexter's shoes, thou shalt not judge!

I watched it (they did run the first episode twice), and I liked it a lot. Of course, I like SE7EN a lot, too, but I thought the odd character relationships were deftly sketched and that the acting was excellent. I loved that the middle-aged woman in the Files Department was the wonderful Margo Martindale, who walked away with the last B'way revival of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, as Big Mama.

I've met Richard and Bob, and note that every neighborhood they've lived in has been serial killer-free a few months after their arrival. Draw your own conclusions. :)

I'm hoping Margo Martindale, who I also love, turns out to be an SK and goes after Dexter. That I would enjoy.

Wish I could say the same about my home town... but that's another story.

You guys!

Boy, I want Michael C. Hall for Christmas, with or without the stubble!
