OK - we all know Boston Legal (in its third season yet), and how it has completely acknowledged it is an episodic TV sitcom whilst actually on Air (the characters refer on screen to season breaks, etc etc etc). But hey, it is a great comedy, and I think no more of those peccadillos than Groucho Marx turning to camera (breaking that stageism fourth wall) and addressing the audience directly. We sit there and we deserve it. If the value of the material is good enough, I'll tune in again next week (fast forwarding the ads, of course).

And so to Justice, I read about the leitmotif idea used at the end of each episode (where we, the audience, and we alone, get to 'witness' the truth of that week's particular case) in advance of catching episode one, and suddenly (we are now at ep 5 now in 'real time') it appeared on screen and I remembered that it was supposed to happen. Did it work, and did I actually care at that point? Well yes, because it was the first time that I had seen it, and I was buoyed along by the fact I could remember something good is going to happen - I get to see the 'truth'. This joy will wear thin and evaporate quickly though, I imagine.

The show itself has absolutely fine filming, casting and scripting. It is so much better than Standoff (which looks much the same production/direction wise). I will certainly now go through eps 2-5! And yes, that is a HK film in the topic title for no good reason except it shares one same word and a DVD of Anita Mui's final concert arrived today.
