The italian company RHV just released two pepla starring muscleman Brad Harris, "Goliath contro i giganti" and "Sansone". I just got mine today and quickly checked the quality. Now here's the good news: both discs have very good amamorphic prints AND good english dubs without burned-in subtitles. You only get the trailers as extras, but who cares since almost all other peplum DVD-releases are so bad you start getting wet dreams of greek VHS...

Peplum fans NEEDS these discs. Xploited doesn't carry them (yet) but they're avaliable för reasonable prices at italian webshops such as www.kultvideo.com and others.

I just watched "Goliath contro i giganti" the other night and it was one of the more intresting entrys in the genre. Seamonsters, giants, amazons, lions, giant lizards, men in monkeysuits - this one's got them all and then some more! Cheezy as hell, but reasonably well made and entertaining all the way.

Also I take back that thing I wrote about the lack of good extras: my italian is not so hot and what i've thought was another pointless filmography was actually a 20 minute long, english subtitled interview with the king of the cheapie himself: Gianfranco Parolini! Parolini, still a very vital and energetic man, tells some very entertaining stories about the italian producers, the birth of the peplum, the Kommisar X-series, Sergio Leone, the Sabata westerns etc etc. We're also told that his working on a new "100% feminist" project about eight female gladiators... ooookay. I have serious doubts it will even enter pre-production but I wish him all the luck in the world.
