Title: Mickey Hargitay RIP

I'm a huge Jayne Mansfield fan, and - after rereading a biography on her - I was wondering what ever happened to her slightly less famous husband. Well, it seems he passed away this week at the age of 80.

The reason I'm posting this here is that I'm also a great admirer of his admirably over-the-top performance as a demented sex killer in Renato Polselli's wonderfully demented giallo, DELIRIUM (1972).

Another slice of Eurocult and Hollywood history sadly slips away.

Well, at least he got to see his daughter win an Emmy just a few weeks ago. And there was a recent revival, in NYC, of WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER?, in which he appears with Jayne. (Now, when are we gonna see a revival of THE LOVES OF HERCULES?)

Hargitay also appeared on a recent episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, as a grandfatherly witness to genital mutilation (no, really).

Not to mention his amazing performance as The Crimson Executioner in BLOODY PIT OF HORROR!

"My perfect body!"

Am I the only one who actually watched THE JAYNE MANSFIELD STORY back in 1980? Why isn't that on home video?

The one with Loni Anderson and Arnie? I've got it on video (taped from TV) around here somewhere.

Just to add another Eurocult flourish: according to May Mann's biography of Jayne, just before her death in 1967 she had been booked to go to Europe to make her first horror movie. Just imagine what could have been!
