Title: Bruce Campbell's MY NAME IS BRUCE
Description: Genius or cult star gone too far?
William S. Wilson - August 25, 2006 04:47 PM (GMT)
This was rumored last year and apparently they just finished filming it in Oregon. The basic premise is a town is beseiged by some kind of evil demons and, thinking he is really Ash from the EVIL DEAD series, they contact the real life Bruce Campbell to help get rid of them.
I've got to say, that has tons of potential to be both good or terrible. On the plus side, just reading that scenario makes me laugh. In a way, this could be the NEW NIGHTMARE of the EVIL DEAD series. On the downside, it is also being directed by Campbell who to the potentially interesting premise of THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN and made one of the worst movies I've seen in the last few years. Here's hoping he pulls it off this time.

I loved New Nightmare...except for that toned down rated G ending. This could be good, real good...hmmmm, we will see.....

Well, this time Bruce Campbell doesn't have Sci-Fi "we love Bulgaria, even when it doesn't make sense" Channel to give him a ten cent budget and little else. Though the dvd for MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN has a pretty funny extra where Campbell and his producing partner explain the process of how they got the film made.
MY NAME IS BRUCE has a lot of potential. It seems like it was a pretty relaxed production, with no interference,so hopefully Campbell got to do good by it. I'll see just about anything with the man in it. He still did one of THE best Elvis characterizations I've ever seen in BUBBA HO-TEP.

I hope it's good, 'cause I have a silly piece of memorabilia actually IN the movie...
I know someone who worked on the movie, well, besides, Bruce... and he knew I had this ATROTIOUS piece of Bruce fan-dumb... At a flea-market (accent heavily on "flea") I discovered a crappy Bruce Campbell fan-made plaque. It was a piece of varnished square wood, with a pic of Bruce from ED2 on it. Underneath the plastic covered photograph, on the wood, was a little metallic nameplate with "Bruce Campbell - Evil Dead" etched into it. It was so ugly... I had to have it.
Anyway, when the movie was in pre-prod, he called me from Bruce's place and asked if I would FedEX the plaque to them for the movie. Evidently, in the film, there is a character who is OBSESSED with Bruce and has all sorts of stupid Bruce related-memorabilia laying around his place. The plaque would fit perfectly on this set, so I let them use it.
They faxed me a contract for the use of it in the film and, viola...
I can't wait to see if it ended up in the movie...

Here is a very early review of the film. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

The review is dated October 1, 2007! Weird.

Well, it's a very early review.

How could this possibly not be the greatest film ever made?

Well, it's good to know your knee jerks the other way too! :P
I thought it looked rather desperate, myself.

Did you see THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN?
I'll admit I found 50% of it amusing. That Bulgaria line is classic. Also, I liked how MANIAC COP gets a name drop and then one character melds MOONTRAP and MINDWARP into MOONWARP. Now if Sam Raimi had directed this...

Couldn't agree more. I'm a big Bruce Campbell guy; even bought THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN sight unseen (and regretted it). But boy... I gotta say I feel a little bad for the guy. The fact that he also directed it makes me feel a little worse.

I was gonna skip this, but Ellen Sandweiss is in it.

I could go for a Sandweiss right about now.

Count me in as "greatest film ever made". I thought the trailer was really funny, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the film. Is this supposed to get any kind of theatrical release?
Now, if someone will just write a kind of GALAXY QUEST/MY NAME IS BRUCE combo-buddy-picture starring Campbell and William Shatner my life will be complete.

I'm in advertising. Hyperbole is my life.
This movie looks like an extension of the Old Spice commercials. Which are works of grand genius.

So it's a remake of THREE AMIGOS?
John W McKelvey - December 16, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
I have low expectations for this, but it does look like a genuine step up from Man With 2 Brains.
...Of course, what wouldn't be?
