I mentioned "Twitch City" in another thread as one of my DVD holy grails. It looks like it's coming out at last. There's a pre-order link on amazon.ca.
I loved this show. If you saw either ROADKILL or HIGHWAY 61 the humour falls very much in line with those - not terribly surprising as the films and series were collaborations between Bruce McDonald and Don McKellar. The casting was terrific, from the leads down to the bit players populating the "Rex Reilly" shows.
My favourite episodes would be either the PLANET OF THE APES parody using cats or the Jennifer Jason Leigh guest shot.
"Planet of the Cats" was a classic, as was the earlier episode in which Lucky the Cat first spoke to Curtis after he consumed mass quantities of the drug-tainted coconut cookies.
When "Twitch City" first ran on Bravo in the US, they unaccountably rescheduled the final episode on a different night and time and I missed it. I never did see it, though I kept an eye on Bravo for a repeat. I always hoped IFC or Sundance might run the show again, but it is truly a lost artifact of tv. I am so glad to finally be able to get it on DVD, and with episode commentaries. Not sure with whom, but I'd love to hear from both McDonald & McKellar and the cast.
Neva hoid of it. But the presence of soon-to-be-ex DEADWOOD regular Molly Parker, and the, um, interesting tidbits mentioned here are enough to pique my interest. Any of you fans care to give it a quick blurb for us clueless folk? Thanks!
The show revolves around Curtis [Don McKellar], an agoraphobic tv junkie who supports his lifestyle by renting out his roommate Nathan's room over and over again. Nathan ran into a bit of trouble which I won't mention here and won't be back for a while. Molly Parker plays Hope, Nathan's girlfriend, who Curtis cons into renting a closet in the apartment. Lots of other familiar Canadian actors appear in guest spots.
Curtis's favorite tv show is a sleazy talk show called "The Rex Reilly Show" [think Jerry Springer]. Rex Reilly was played by Bruch McCulloch in season 1 and Mark McKinney in season 2. Joyce DeWitt plays herself in one memorable bit.
