Title: Severin Films - new Franco, Borowczyk and D'Amato
Description: (S)exploitation from BU's David Gregory
Anthony Thorne - July 1, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
Haven't seen this discussed much here but following the launch of the Severin Films website, David Gregory has hinted at some forthcoming Euro titles. Their first Jess Franco release is MACUMBA SEXUAL (the disc has new interviews with Franco and Lina Romay) and I'm assuming that their upcoming Lucio Fulci release is THE DEVIL'S HONEY. It'll be interesting to see which D'Amato films are scheduled, and I'm personally hoping their Borowczyk acquisition is DR JECKYLL AND HIS WOMEN. There are gothic horrors and giallos aplenty on DVD but I'm sure the vaults of unreleased seamy Euro smut will provide a rich vein for them to (insert innuendo here) delve into over the coming years.

Nope, the releases are not DEVIL'S HONEY or DR. JEKYLL...
Andrew King - July 1, 2006 09:06 PM (GMT)
Yes - I wonder who will release those.

Wow, lots of people seem to be leaving Blue Underground to start their own companies. Wasn't NoShame founded by former Blue Underground associates, as well?

Vincent - yes it was.
Right, maybe the Fulci is THE EROTICIST or YOUNG DRACULA. If not one of those then I can't think of which 'sexy' Fulci title they have in mind. I guess we'll find out soon.
Andrew King - July 2, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
What about that Fulci where La Pretora has a twin sister, both played by Edwige Fenech - can't get more sexy than that, except that they can't do a scene 'together' although they apparently do have a share a scene with each other. My guess is this one, as there is an Italian DVD already.

Andrew, you're right, that's another sexy Fulci title that I'd forgotten. More Edwige Fenech on DVD would be nice, in fact I hope the Severin label goes for a while and brings out a lot of good stuff. I'll bet there's a lot of odd and interesting titles out there previously unseen - the DELIRIUM 1975-1979 Italian film guide features a whole bunch of them.

Hopefully they get hold of some of Larraz's other films.

Oh, when oh when is DR. JEKYLL AND HIS WOMEN going to be released? "Massive sigh"

Unfortunately, given that the rights situation is rumoured to be messy and complicated, I fear that answer could be: not for a very long time... Which is a great, great shame because if ever there was a film that would benefit from the move to a decent digital OAR, restored presentation, then it's this. ("Sadness-tinged exhalation") :(

The Devil's Honey was recently released on an asian disc (I think HK, but I could be wrong) in English but with non-removeable subtitles. This may be the only version of the film out there in English on DVD, or the only version period. I personally haven't sen it yet, but I believe you can pick it up from Tony at Xploited Cinema.

The Borowczyk title along with another related item are discussed on the website:
http://www.severin-films.com/news.phpOh, and that HK disc of THE DEVIL'S HONEY is an awful, smudgy mess. I *really* hope someone picks this up and does it right. Last I heard the rights were still available, but it's been a while since I looked into it.

Are all of Franco's Golden Film's productions shot in Techniscope?
I've seen GEMIDOS DE PLACER, SEXUAL STORY OF O, and SINISTER DR. ORLOFF (cropped to 1.85:1 from 2.35:1).
I think I read that the first two Franco titles Severin is releasing are 2.35:1.
