Title: Whatever happened to the BLAIR WITCH creators?
Description: ..potential Sundance doc material!!

This question has probably been asked heaps of times before, but I'm curious to know what happened to these guys who seem to have vanished off the film-making map much like the protags in their film (there's a great sundance docco idea in the making here!!!). I remember that they were talking about making a Farrelleyesque comedy and in recent times doing BLAIR WITCH3, but hey 5 years and no cigar - you start to wonder whether these two (Myrick and Sanchez)were flukes who took the money and ran. Anyway I trust there are folk out there who know more about this 'mystery' than I do and am curious to know what exactly hapened (if anyone knows for sure?!!) . cheers. RW ;)

Last I heard they were off of Blair Witch again because they wanted to do a prequel and the studio was interested in another sequel.

Trouble with them is, they made an interesting film in a (then) unique way, but it's the kind of thing that's unreplicable. It doesn't prove they actually know how to make a real narrative film. If I were them I'd make another feature with a micro-budget just to prove that can make a old-fashioned style film.

Of course, that's assuming they're any good at that form in the first place.

I remember an interview with the BLAIR WITCH makers about a year after the film came out. (Sorry, I don't have a URL.) In it, one of them said something to the effect of, Can you believe that studios want proof we can make a conventionally made film?

He seemed generally amazed by this.

MSNBC posted a followup article earlier this year catching up with where they are. The filmmakers haven't really done much since by choice.

Either New York Magazine or the New York Times Sunday magazine did a story following up on these guys about a year ago. Heather (whose name eludes me...actually all their names elude me) was in Stephen Spielberg's TAKEN miniseries, but has apparently not taken a lot of work because she feels like she's always getting typecast.

One of the guys is still in Hollywood, but not doing much. And the other is working for a moving company.

I met Dan, Mike and Gregg when I was in film school. Never met Eduardo or Robin. (the Haxan Five)

They had numerous projects in development for years including a remake of the In Search Of TV series here at Universal.

Earlier this year they cast a feature shot on 24P HD called @lien or maybe @lien Love Triangle, here in Orlando and up in Atlanta. I haven't found out yet how it turned out.

There was talk years ago about the guys coming back to write and direct BW3, but after the legal battle with Artisan over BW1 I doubt that will happen.

Alien Love Triangle was a Miramax science fiction anthology, wasn't it? Shelved years ago, but Gary Fleder's section was expanded into the movie Imposter. I think I read somewhere(probably here?) that the anthology might make it onto dvd or theaters next years.

Actually they did, when Lions Gate bought Artisan. They came back and ran into some of the same problems I understand(them wanting a prequel, studio wanting a sequel).
