Title: LUCKY LOUIE
Description: HBO's sitcom made me laugh
John Bernhard - June 13, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
This debuted Sunday night and while it has some problems that stood out ( awkward angles, what sounds like annoying canned laughter despite being filmed in front of a live audience ), I laughed pretty hard a few lines. It's about a couple struggling with money problems while trying to raise their 4 yr old daughter and is based on the stand up of lead Louie C. K.
The stupid stuff with the next door neighbor did not work well for me, but the dynamic between Louie and his wife ( Paula Marshall double Pam Aldon ) was well done and there may be comic gold coming from Jim Norton as the pot dealing co worker and Laura Knightlinger as a friend.
I don't find much humor in THE OFFICE and EARL makes me angry. LOUIE is the most amusing thing, flawed as it is , that I have seen in quite awhile on the box. I am curious where it will end up if / when it finds a nice balance.

I liked it.
The acting of the two leads was weak, but I'm sure that it will come around in time.
Jerry Minor (black neighbor) was wasted, and I didn't care much for the sidekick characters, but overall I liked what they were trying to do with the show.
It's worth it just to hear a wife tell her husband, "...then do me, you f*cking pole-smoker!"

I laughed at the "release the doves, already" line in the preview of next week's show more than anything else. I'll be tuning in to see that bit again, but the first episode was a little too sitcom-ish for me.

I thought last ight was a bit better all around and also had a few laugh out loud moments. It's rude and crude, but pretty honest in between the jokes. Certainly not for all tastes, ( you either laughed at the opening coupling shot or you didn't ), but this might be turing into the funniest show on the box.
Not sure what it is with HBO's new shows and male nudity though. BIG LOVE brought us loving views of Bill Paxton's posterior and last night we get to witness Louie CK bolt out of bed in the buff in his birthday. Don't get me wrong, I can handle it, but what about equal time for the other sex?

I don't expect to see Pamela Adlon naked on the show, but that's okay -- she's holding my interest well enough fully clothed. The look on her face when Louie bolted out of bed starkers last night indicates it may have been a surprise to her, as well.

Indeed, her expression seemed to indicate that he must have had his shorts on for the rehearsals.

I'm a little late on this one, but I've caught three episodes over the past week and have found them all hysterical. I don't know how realistic a working class couple is wearing an MC5 tshirt and sipping Red Stripes, but all three shows had me rolling. I just read that the numbers are up too...

I like her (Pamela Adlon) a lot, but the show's not growing for me. The episodes have interesting premises and some funny dialogue and situations, but for me, where they go is never as interesting as where they start from. Last week's episode about the little daughter's bad manners was an exception, but it was followed by last night's show, which was about dealing with a teenage daughter's bad manners.

I must step up and say I've had a crush on Pamela Segall Adlon ever since she was sporting the proto-babydyke look on Redd Foxx's failed comeback sitcom on ABC and the gender-switch comedy SOMETHING SPECIAL. Then she blossomed into full hotness as Lili Taylor's friend in SAY ANYTHING. And of course, we get to hear her every week bending gender again as the voice of Bobby Hill on "KING OF THE HILL." So a few naked peeks are, well, pleasant to say the least.
I am rather fascinated at how she married the son of BAGDAD CAFE director Percy Adlon. That's just one of those outta-nowhere couplings that catch you off guard. But it looks like it works. Just hope he's not too jealous of Louie.

I had no idea Louis C.K. had a show on TV. I used to see him perform in New York back in the day and always liked his dry, just-the-facts style delivery. He had a bit that's stuck in my mind ever since, about how his father went bankrupt selling funeral dresses for little girls... it was the kind of ghoulish/tasteless bit that really cut through the latte foam of lame political and observational schtick on the Lower East Side standup circuit.

My favorite bit of his was when he stated that if he got enormously rich, he would do unconventional things, like go to a small town and buy every single pair of pants in the town. Then, address the city the next day on TV...
"If you want pants, you'll have to deal with me. I AM THE KING OF PANTS! EL REGIS DEL PANTALONES!

HBO has cancelled the show. Too bad as I though it was pretty good and would have liked it to continue.
