Perhaps one of the most famous stills from THE MUMMY (1932) is the picture of Karloff (as Ardath Bay) looking straight ahead with a very dangerous expression, with shadow around his eyes. His mouth is closed tightly. The picture ends on top in the middle of his forehead, and the bottom cuts off in the middle of his chin. His face is quite wrinkled (courtesy of Jack Pierce), but this of course does not in any way take away from his creepiness. This photograph may be seen on the cover of BORIS KARLOFF AND HIS FILMS (by Paul M. Jensen), and also in the top right hand corner of the back of the box of Sideshow's delightful 12-inch action figure.
My question is this: Have I adequately described the picture so that you know which one I mean? Also, does anyone know where I could obtain a nice, large copy of that movie still? I have so far found none that are very big. It would be excellent to have such a picture on my wall.
That's so weird, Prince Hal... Just last night I was telling friends here in Los Angeles that I had seen a T-shirt bearing that exact same likeness in a store off Hollywood Boulevard and that I had to have it.
Well done, Richard. That is the picture all right.
I have a desktop wallpaper image of that shot which has made my computer look enjoyably creepy for quite a while. It was part of a MUMMY PC theme that I got somewhere off the net, probably through softseek.com or whatever they are called these days. I think that address still works. If you have trouble finding the MUMMY theme, I can email you the image.
