Title: Interesting budget UK releases?

Gary Painter - November 17, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
Apologies, this was discussed on old Mobius, and I foolishly didn't take note of any of the titles mentioned....

I remember a thread stating that some interesting Euro Cult stuff was appearing on cheap bargain bin labels in the UK, often using the same transfers as more expensive versions released elsewhere in the world - can anyone point me towards a few? I've been neglecting my Euro sleaze and trash for a while now and fancy a cheap fix!

Thanks,
Gary

Arrow's DVD for Dario Argento's OPERA (as TERROR AT THE OPERA) is very good. Bare-bones, but the transfer is almost as good as that of the US Anchor Bay release, and it not only includes the old pre-Cannes dub (with a different voice for Inspector Santini), the Italian version with English subtitles is also thrown in for good measure.

The Sollima crime thriller Violent City with Charles Bronson is out on a budget label off the same print as the Anchor Bay version. It isn't advertised on the disk but film is widescreen ratio and can be viewed in either English or Italian.

Redneck with Franco Nero and Telly Savalas can be had for next to nothing. I scored a new copy on eBay for €4.00 inc. shipping.
