got the thing dvd last night. any opinions on this so far? i have not had a chance to check any of it out, but it looks like there is some stuff on this one that wasnt on the last one?
also, mine has a sleeve for a booklet or something of the sort inside, but it was empty. did i miss out or are they all like that?
thanks!

The DVD comes without a booklet.
AFAIK it has one special feature LESS than the first edition: the isolated music track is missing.
However the transfer is much improved on the new disc.

I am so glad that they released this again in 16x9 anamorphic 2.35:1. The previous DVD looked horrible on my 55" Mits.

I thought the transfer was pretty darn good for a 22 year old film. Not perfect but close.

I almost went back to Best Buy to return it because the of the empty sleeve, until I found it mentioned at Amazon. Why make the sleeve if you're not going to put anything in it? ;)

The reason for the empty sleeve brackets is a result of amaray case manufacturing copyrights. There aren't a whole lot of choices available, and large companies have contractual obligations requiring them to use specific vendors. It's cheaper to have an extra, unutilized piece in the plastic than to order a more appropriate case (if allowed contractually) from another vendor. Several times over the past year I've purchased Chinese DVD's that have a dual tray design that doesn't utilize the other tray, which is a biger waste than empty "booklet brackets", but it is still surprising that a company the size of Universal didn't fill the empty space with a catalog at least.

Luckily, I kept the booklet from my original non-anamorphic DVD when I traded that DVD in at Blockbuster for store credit, so I have the new anamorphic DVD with an insert :-)

As for the isolated music score, I never listened to it on my old DVD, so I don't miss it myself, but I don't know why they'd omit it this time around. I'm glad they finally upgraded this to anamorphic, but there's too much edge-enhancement in some shots. I really wish all DVD masterings houses would just do away with the insidious edge-enhancement process altogether- nothing ruins a viewing experience more than seeing huge artificial outlines around objects :-\
