Now, I noticed while watching this that Lina Romay's scenes are clearly from something else, can anyone clarify that please? Or is it just soemthing that was cut out and edited back in for the X-Rated DVD or there was simply no English track made? What is the situation there, thx!

The Lina Romay's scenes were shot by Franco for the Spanish version of this film, entitled LA MALDICION DE FRANKENSTEIN. As you noticed, they look very poorly shot. But you know Franco .... maybe he took his camera, his Lina and filmed these sequences without a director of photography in two hours. Nontheless, I like them, mainly for the surrealistic touch of that Methuselah-woman – I suppose she was around 100 years old – whom Lina talks with and who appears to be the ancient Cagliostro's lover!
The French version isn't available, like all the De Nesle productions, for legal issues. I'd like Image would release on DVD the French version, but I suppose they won't be allowed and will release the Spanish.

This is my all-time favorite Franco film, and I can barely contain my enthusiasm at the prospect if seeing it in 2.35 and nice color. For me, it contains everything that I love about Uncle Jess' work: A feminist reworking of a Universal Pictures horror myth, a smorgasbord of characters from 19th century literature, ancient mythology, and Franco's earlier films, the iconic Howard Vernon as villainous patriarch Cagliostro, tons of cleverly imagined and shot nudity, Wellesian deep focus cinematography, and an exhibitionistic flaunting of its poverty of means.
I can't wait to read what I hope will be Tim Lucas' inevitable review and analysis of this extraordinary movie in the pages of VIDEO WATCHDOG.

I was very pleased with the new X-Rated Kult DVD.....quite a difference from the horrible bootlegs I've had forever. Recommended! BTW, I got the cover (there are 4) with a painting of Karloff's monster on the front. I'm sure Universal and Sara Karloff would not be amused.

Yes, I too grabbed the Cover "B" with the Karloff-like Frankenstein on the cover. The X-Rated Kult disc is very well presented indeed, interesting interview with Franco as he talks about everything but the film really. Cutting up actors like Ben Affleck and A. Jolie sighting them as always acting like puppets. The STAR WARS Prt. 250 comment was classic as well! I myself I'm a fench sitting Franco fan as his films are a hit and miss with me. His EROTIC RITES film, I'm somewhat disappointed, but not entirely.
