Title: World's Finest Fan Film? Have You Seen This?!

Holy Crap! I just watched a short fan film, in the guise of a trailer, for the ultimate Superman/Batman live action team up. Crazy! Check it out here:

Does anyone know any info/history on this? I'll do some research this afternoon, but... wow, someone did a nice freaking job.

Oh yeah, power to MOBIUS. It will RISE again! Great job, Todd.

This was made by Sandy Collora, the man responsible for the equally impressive BATMAN: DEAD END that came out earlier this year. You can read more about him at his official site here:

I wish a big studio would get behind this guy. He makes some amazing looking films for the tiny budgets he has. Imagine if he was given only $10 million. Alas, these comic book adaptation jobs keep getting handed to guys who say that can't make it without a $100 million dollar budget backing them up.

In Wired Magazine a few months ago they had a one page mini article on Collara, and they mentioned he was working on an original film. Flick called Guardians of Atlantis.

EDIT: Wait, just found the actual article :) :

Wired Article

Hmm they actually say in it he was in talks for a Creature remake, actually. Guess it fell through, haven't heard anything since.

I was very impressed with BATMAN: DEAD END. Does anyone know what he shoots his films on?

Hey Marty,
If you liked this, check out Batman Dead End. I actually like that one more. But, it's all a matter of taste.

Of all the fan trailers I've seen I think I like it the best.

WOW! That GRAYSON trailer is absolutely amazing, probably the best one of these fan trailers yet. Speaking of which, does anyone have the link to that French DAREDEVIL short from a few years back?

I got into the Batman fan films recently. There are some pretty cool ones out there. There's even a whole website devoted to them. I especially like GRAYSON.

However, I kind of got turned off after watching DEATH OF BATMAN. It was, quite possibly, one of the most disturbing viewing experiences I've ever had. It's made with a certain amount of skill, and the acting is fine, but I'm one of those weird people that think comic books and superheroes should be fun. I'm not a fan of the Frank Miller stuff, and I think that Batman comics in the 90s became almost absurdly grim.

Anyway, here's what happens in DEATH OF BATMAN

(SPOILERS BELOW)

Batman is about to bust some petty crook, when the crook winds up using a taser to shock Batman in the genitals. He then chains batman to a wall and holds him prisoner for 2 months, during which time he gets Batman hooked and heroin and (wait for it) anally rapes him. At the end of 2 months, the crook reveals that Batman put him in jail years ago for a crime he didn't commit. The crook then shoots himself in front of Batman and dies with a smile on his face. Batman picks up a syringe full of heroin and intentionally overdoses and dies in a drainage ditch.

I don't know what these filmmakers were thinking. Like I said, if the film had been poorly done, I could just laugh it off, but the whole thing is just so sinister. The scene with Batman being...er...violated, while not explicit, is done in split screen. On the other side of the screen are two female television announcers stating that Batman has just won the award for "Gotham's sexiest man." There's such contempt and hatred for the Batman character that I can't imagine why the filmmakers would bother making a Batman fanfilm to begin with.

Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I like my Batman stories to actually be fun. I don't mean Adam West/Burt Ward fun, but I even dug the old Denny O'Neil stuff from the 70's. It's grim, yes, but in a very romantic, gothic sort of way.

Anyway, that kind of put me off fan films for awhile.

D.

P.S. Nice to have you back, Mobius.
