Im thinking of getting both this weekend and wonder what you guys think or have any reviews
Thanks
I have both MARK OF THE DEVIL & NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS. I only watched NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS so far, and I recommend it.
MAYBE SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS:
It's sort of on the same level with Wes Craven's LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. A good amount of brutality & degradation of the young women involved. It's a little unnerving at times, but it's pretty interesting. It seems to send a message about violence, and how even the so-called refined, well-off people, can be the antagonists of such actions when the opportunity arises. A decent interview, concerning the making of the movie lasting about 15min. w/ Aldo Lado is included, which he makes a short refernece about LAST HOUSE. Also has a posters, & stills gallery, radio spots, as well as a US & International Theatrical Trailer. I think Flavio Bucci (SUSPIRIA), played a really good part in it. And Macha Meril (DEEP RED), is also very effective as one of the other antagonists. Although you'd kind of like to reach out and choke her. If you see it, you'll know what I mean. But that's what makes her part effective.
All together a little unnerving, but it depends on your tastes and what you would consider, too much. I'd definetely check it out though. I think it's worth repeat viewings.
Hope this helps?
Dean
By the way, I'm so glad to see MHVF back up & running. I owe it to this forum and the great people that have posted on here, with opening my eyes to the wonderful world of Euro-Cult flicks. I've tried supporting it by buying from Amazon.com, Poker, and DvdPlanet.
I can't say that I'm a huge fan of MARK OF THE DEVIL, though it's definitely one of those films that every euro-horror/sleaze/trash fan should see at least once. I'm going to get the DVD with my next order, but only really for the extras and nostalgia's sake.
As for NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS - my review of the DVD is available
here. As I mention in the review, I was a little disappointed by it as I had vivid memories from the only other time I had viewed it some years ago, and it didn't really live up to those memories. I still think it's a well-made film by a director who I wish had made more films, and I like it if only because it features Irene Miracle (INFERNO is my all-time favourite movie), plus all those other actors with Argento associations.
I got NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS a couple of days ago and was very impressed with it. I enjoyed it much more than THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, which was NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS' clear inspiration (to put it mildly). Extremely tense, at times unflinchingly brutal, and shot with a great deal more style and tact than Craven's original, I found Flavio Bucci (DAMN does he look like Dario Argento!) to be every bit as unnerving as David Hess was in LAST HOUSE. Irene Miracle is very good too - a shame her co-star, Laura D'Angelo, is less capable.
EDIT: Changed "beautiful" to "brutal".

I second that one Michael, Flavio Bucci DOES have a resemblence to the great one himself, Dario Argento.
I also enjoyed NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS more than LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. I thought it was really well done.
