Noted film restorer Robert A. Harris has conducted a
fascinating interview with Warner Home Video's George Feltenstein that has been posted at the Digital Bits. In addition to a virtual mini-history of the laserdisc format and the many classics released on LD during Feltenstein's tenure at MGM/UA Home Video, the interview contains quite a bit of information regarding upcoming Warner DVD releases that should be greeted warmly by those who've been eagerly waiting for WHV to really dig into its vast catalog in earnest.

. . . digitalbits posted today that Warner will release a WARNER GANGSTER COLLECTION on 1/25/05 which will include WHITE HEAT, ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, LITTLE CAESAR, THE PETRIFIED FOREST, THE ROARING TWENTIES, and THE PUBLIC ENEMY (I suppose this edition will include the restoration of some stuff censored in previous re-issue versions of this film that George Feltenstein mentions as having been found on 35mm in Britain) . . .
Warner Brothers has been such an incredible company this year; they've really come around, ditching the snappers and digging into their vaults to reveal some real treasures. George worries about Internet reviews bitching about dust, dirt and grime on some of the transfers; I've learned to overcome this and enjoy the flick! If it looks gorgeous, THEN I give credit where credit is due.
