Title: Touch of Death...coming to dvd.

I was wondering how this Lucio Fulci movie is, called TOUCH OF DEATH, that I just saw over at the Media Blasters web-site that'll be streeting on 4/26/05? I never saw it, or really ever heard anything about it. It states only an Italian language option, any news if there'll be an English option? Here's a link to the MB site for it, sans any cover-art:

Also, I saw it mentioned in another post, that MB/SS will also be releasing CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD? I didn't hear about this, or see it over on their web-site. Anyone have any info on this release as well?

I have a soft spot for this flick, as, little did I know at the time, at the ripe ole age of 12yrs. old, in 1980, was my first intro into Lucio Fulci & the wonderful world of Euro-Cult/zombie flicks, when I saw it at the theater with my father. Which, of course, at the time was going by the name THE GATES OF HELL. Dad was a good man, he introduced me to horror at a young age. :)

Some people love TOUCH OF DEATH, some people hate it. Personally, I quite enjoy it. Not so much as a horror movie, but as a grisly black comedy.

As I'm good friends with two of the leading ladies ;) - always helps

Thanks for your thoughts Kit. Seeing how I like just about anything Fulci, I'll more than likely get it.

What's up with THE CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD upcoming release from mb/ss, are they doing something to improve the a/v on it, or is it something more they're going to add to it, such as a commentary track, interviews, ect.? I never heard much about the transfer AB used when they released it, will they more than likely be upgrading that? Any projected release date set or anything?

I'd like to hear more about the CITY disc.

I haven't seen TOUCH OF DEATH but I know its out on DVD in Europe. I saw a Japanese ex-rental tape on eBay and the item description said it was in English with Japanese subtitles so there was a dub track.

I don't think there is much Media Blasters can do to foul up this release since it will probably transferred from a master provided by the Italian rights holder. I haven't heard much about censoring problems on this so it should be pretty straightforward (unlike trying to make a LIZARD composite or ZOMBI 3 for that matter).

If you've seen A Cat in the Brain (Nightmare Concerto) then you've already seen several of the death scenes from A Touch of Death (the most notorious one involving a chainsaw is spliced into the beginning of Cat).

It's a return to gross misognyisitic bad taste by Fulci with soem fairly outrageous gore scenes and also some pretty wacky narrative twists. It's also very cheap and most of it is set around a single house.

I've only seen A CAT IN THE BRAIN (NIGHTMARE CONCERT) once, and to be truthful, I didn't really care for it. Although, sometimes I need to give a movie more than one viewing to take it all in & appreciate it. Nonetheless, I'll more than likely at least rent TOUCH OF DEATH when it comes out.
