Peter, thanks for pointing out the article. A good read. Not sure what I think about the final paragraphs concerning religious aesthetics, though.
While I suppose it's a positive development that so many Japanese (and Korean) films are gaining exposure in the west, it seems rather unfortunate many will never see the original (and better in my opinion) versions of THE RING, DARK WATER, THE GRUDGE, INFERNAL AFFAIRS, etc. Even when they do, there's often a bias against the originals in favor of their American counterparts.
On a positive note, I'm pleased that the writer of the article views THE HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS and 2046 so positively.
