A couple of years ago Sazuma commenced the deluxe ‘Italian Genre Cinema Collection’, with the intention of releasing rare Eurocult films in classy, English-language friendly editions with desirable extras. They released discs #1 and #2 of the series (these being Sergio Martino’s MORTE SOSPETTA DI UNA MINORENNE / SUSPECTED DEATH OF A MINOR, and Franco Prosperi’s LA SETTIMA DONNA, matching the later Severin edition and adding a soundtrack CD) before reduced sales forced them to abandon the line. The presence of both of the discs on bittorrent sites, and the decision of some fans to download the films rather than buying the DVD’s, likely didn’t help matters much.

Camera Obscura have now taken over the series and will maintain it for as long as sales enable them to. Releases #3, #4 and #5 are all in production and each includes new transfers, deluxe packaging and other relevant extras.

Release #5, out in the near future, is Ferdinando Baldi’s sleazy LA RAGAZZA DEL VAGONE LETTO, aka TERROR EXPRESS. Along with a newly remastered, uncut 16x9 print with English-language audio, the set includes a deluxe booklet with liner notes from Christian Kessler, and a new documentary featurette, ‘Tales from the Rails’, featuring interviews with Zora Kerova, Carlo De Mejo and Luigi Montefiori.
Releases #3 and #4 encompass the world premiere of a European erotic movie, and a new restoration of a 70’s giallo, detailed in another thread here on this board. Camera Obscura are also in negotiation to obtain several other desirable Eurocult titles, sales permitting.
