Title: Is the new ASPHYX DVD anamorphic?
Description: or simply the old 2.35 LBX transfer?

Kenneth Warner - October 14, 2009 07:09 AM (GMT)
While I'm glad to see THE ASPHYX back in circulation on US DVD (as of October 27), I haven't been able to find out if this is just a re-release of the old DVD or a new transfer?

It's listed as 2.35 letterboxed, so I'm thinking this might be a rehash, but I'm hoping I'm wrong...

(at least it's not the shortened version the UK got before - hacked to a 1.78 ratio!)

Not only was the old UK Anchor Bay disc hacked up, but a 1:78:1 matte was placed onto a 1:33:1 pan-and-scan transfer! Pretty nasty. There's a new UK DVD on the way too from Odeon, which should be uncut and - I hope - anamorphic.

I've got the R0, PAL Umbrella disc which is 2:35 (non-anamorphic) and uncut. It doesn't look like this new disc is anamorphic (it's not listed at least), so I'm not sure it's worth picking up just to have it as NTSC (unless the picture is significantly improved).

. . . DVD Empire has a picture of the back of the DVD case and it does not say anything about "anamorphic" . . .

Wasn't the Umbrella disc sourced from the same master as the All Day disc?
