Title: Paul Naschy recommendations, particulary hairy

Other than online clips, I've only see FRANKENSTEIN'S BLOODY TERROR in its 70s light night TV version and some of ASSIGNMENT TERROR on a portable TV in my dorm room in the 80s. Where should I start on DVD with Waldemar?

Some Naschy purists balk at its remake/rehash status, but Night Of The Werewolf (aka El Retorno del Hombre Lobo, aka The Craving) was a fabulous gothic horror gateway drug for me to Daninskyland. It's a beautifully-shot grab bag of all the junk you could want from a flick like this: bikini-clad grad students, vampire slaves, a "funny" guy who says the word "ass" a lot, a zombie slave, copious nudity and bloodshed, a crumbling castle, Erzebet Bathory herself as a vampire queen with formidable Christopher Lee attitude, and Waldemar Daninsky himself with one of the best werewolf make-ups Naschy ever sported. The recent HD mastered DVD is a delight, one of the best blind buys I ever made due to Mobius praise.

Well I really enjoyed CURSE OF THE DEVIL, WEREWOLF SHADOW aka NIGHT OF THE WALPURGIS and DR. JEKYLL AND THE WEREWOLF. They are downright crazy good. The continuity is quite peculiar. Some movies pick up from the previous ones. Others are self-contained. That does make them surreal series it also adds to the curse of Daninsky. One never knows where the nightmare begins or ends.
CURSE is one of the most tragic movies in the series. I found it to be much more serious and as fatalistic as any film noir or Mario Bava movie. It has been a while since I’ve seen this. Now that Halloween is upon us………
WEREWOLF SHADOW. I saw this a few years ago. It is pretty much the best of his Werewolf vs. Vampire motifs.
The JEKELL tag team is a divine. It is fascinating juxtaposition of supernatural and scientific transformation or at least metaphysically anyways. It features a wild moment on a dance floor with a strobe light.
ASSIGNMENT TERROR is a genuine misfire. It might work if you have a loony sense of humor. I have fallen asleep to this a couple of times. It could have been a gem in the series but it supposedly had many on set problems. The prints are various and muddy.
FURY OF THE WOLFMAN is a public domain staple. Most reviews are terrible. I saw this one a 10 year and found it a bore. I’d like to watch it again but I’m in no hurry.
FRANKENSTEIN’S BLOODY TERROR aka MARK OF THE WEREWOLF is a great way to start the series. Then I would move on to WEREWOLF SHADOW. It kind of continues some of the events from MARK.

What are the recommended DVDs for WEREWOLF'S SHADOW and NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF/RETORNO DEL HOMBRE LOBO/THE CRAVING? Which has the better Vampire Queen? Amazon reviews of SHADOW suggest that one of the DVDs out there has a stutter problem.
Are BEAST AND THE MAGIC SWORD or NIGHT OF THE HOWLING BEAST/WEREWOLF AND THE YETI available anywhere on DVD?

And yes, hot babes are as much of a factor in my selection as gore, good werewolf makeup, and other monsters.

The BCI CURSE has the stutter problem, and they were issuing replacements ( they may till have them too, I got mine after they were shut down ). You could find the Anchor Bay versions on line cheap and they are almost as good.
I find NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF to be a gratuitous remake myself, just see WEREWOLF SHADOW.
One title that scores high on most lists is HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB. BCI released a beauty dvd of this one. BCI also put out DRACULA's GREAT LOVE ( on a double bill as CEMETERY GIRLS which also has mega babes and bloodshed. HUNCHBACK OF THE MOURGE is coming out from Mya in a month or so, also highly recommended.
Look for the BCI films at Best Buy, they had exclusive double biils there that can still be found on some shelves ( or check their on line store ).
